So a couple of hens have been sitting on
several eggs. I am not just talking about an occasional oh, let me just sit here but rather, I will not move from this spot for hours or even days on end. This is when I suspected something was up. Today I had decided that it was time to candle the eggs. When I went into the coop, to my surprise I saw this!.....Guess there is no need to candle the eggs to see if they are fertile. I will wait about another week to see if the remaining 7 will turn into tiny chicks. Guess you can say our farm is alive and well.
Those little black toes are so adorable. I remember yellow chicks with pink feet at Aunt Carrie's chicken pen, in Wrens.
The hen looks so content that one of her efforts finally hatched. Guess it's a good bet that I could not eat her after her laying days were over.

OK, even though I am a chicken hater, I have to admit. That chickie is cute! :)

Your farm is alive and well and baby chicks are the reason I never kept hens and roosters when you were growing up. I just KNEW I'd crack an egg over the sizzling butter in the frying pan and a baby chick would fall out. I mean, it could happen!
Still, they're rather cute... aren't they.
